Who Am I? and Why This Website?

Hi! I’m Vincent. The short story is that I had repeatedly failed for 20 years to learn how to play the guitar until I randomly bumped into some guitar/music theory. After a couple of years of learning and enjoying myself A LOT, I decided it was time to give back and started this website to summarize everything I learned that helped me become a better player.

Here’s a timeline of my failures until I found the keys and unlocked my understanding:

I thought it would be fun to create a chart of this journey

The long story: Born in the 80s, I ended up listening to many rock, hard rock, and metal bands in the 90s and naturally fell in love with the saturated tone of electric guitars. My parents bought me my first guitar (a Gibson Nighthawk they scored at a record-low price) when I was 14 and I grew my hair to be a rock star! My only problem: I sucked at playing guitar… despite years of guitar lessons (I realize only now how inefficient they were).

A few years passed, and I abandoned the idea (and cut my hair).

At 30, I missed it so much that I bought a new (acoustic) guitar and was only playing the old songs I had learned in the past… EPIC FAIL, the new guitar was sold after two years without a scratch.

Fast forward a few more years: COVID hit and my guitar was in another country with a friend so I decided to get a new guitar (Epiphone SG) with the secret hope of finally being able to learn more than the Wonderwall intro or the whole Nirvana Unplugged album… FAIL (again)…

… but wait a minute, let’s try that game on Steam you can play with a real guitar: Rocksmith… oh that’s fun! they even have lessons… nice! Oh damn, I’m not sure to remember all my pentatonic patterns; let’s check out Youtube… OMG!!! What is that CAGED thing? I don’t think I had understood what was a pentatonic scale before… the blues scale? Intervals?

I’m now playing every day!
